Even an introvert like me must admit I much prefer writing novels knowing someone else is going to appreciate them

That, (the appreciation of others) only comes for me once I mat and frame one of my watercolours. The creative act of the painting has nothing to do with anyone else.

Everyone's creative process is different, of course. But I think creating something you like and think is important is the first priority; connecting with others comes later. I only write non-fiction, but if I think too much about others' opinions early on, it paralyzes me.
